How to Print a ChatGPT Conversation (Without Cut-Off Text)

Method 1: Print a ChatGPT conversation with Ctrl+P

ChatGPT has no dedicated print button, so the built-in route is your browser's print dialog.

1. Open the chat on chatgpt.com and scroll to the top so earlier messages are loaded.
2. Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Cmd+P on a Mac.
3. Check the preview. If it looks right, pick your printer (or "Save as PDF") and print.

For a short answer this is often good enough. The trouble starts with longer chats.

Common problems with printing from the browser

The chat page is built as an app, not as a document, so the print preview frequently shows these issues:

• Cut-off text. Long conversations sometimes print only the part that is visible on screen, or stop after the first page.
• Interface clutter. The sidebar, chat list, input box and buttons can end up on paper next to your text.
• Split tables and code. Tables and code blocks are often sliced across page breaks, and wide tables or long code lines may be clipped at the right margin.
• Dark mode. If you use the dark theme, the preview can come out with dark backgrounds or low-contrast text, which wastes ink.
• Formulas. Equations may not print as cleanly as they look on screen.

Tweaking the dialog helps a little — switch to the light theme, tick "Background graphics" off, or scale the page down — but it does not fix cut-off content or split tables.

Method 2: Export to PDF or Word first, then print the ChatGPT conversation

Printing a document is predictable in a way that printing a web app is not. Turn the chat into a real file first:

1. Install the TODOC extension from the Chrome Web Store. It also works in Edge, Brave and Arc on desktop.
2. Open the conversation on chatgpt.com.
3. Click the export button next to the chat and choose PDF (or Word if you want to edit before printing).
4. Open the downloaded file and print it like any other document.
